Controversial Republican U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene apologized Sunday for her position within the nation’s “toxic politics” and mentioned she would do issues otherwise going ahead in hopes others would do the identical, together with President Trump.

The simmering battle between the once-unabashed loyalist and the president got here to a head Friday when Trump withdrew assist and minimize ties with Greene on his Fact Social platform. He dubbed the Georgia congresswoman “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Greene,” referred to as her a “ranting lunatic” and a “disgrace to our great Republican party,” and declared he would assist main challengers.

“The most hurtful thing he said, which is absolutely untrue, is he called me a traitor, and that is so extremely wrong,” Greene informed CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union,” her first interview for the reason that falling-out. “And those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.”

Bash famous that Greene had championed such rhetoric when it was aimed toward others and was solely calling it out now that it had put her personal security in danger.

“I think that’s fair criticism,” Greene replied. “And I would like to say humbly, I’m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. It’s very bad for our country.”

Greene has from accused faculty capturing survivors of being “paid actors,” espoused QAnon conspiracy theories and even blamed what got here to be often called “Jewish space lasers” for manipulating the climate.

“I’m only responsible for myself and my own words and actions,” Greene informed Bash. “I’ve been working on this a lot lately, to put down the knives in politics. I really want to just see people be kind to one another, and we need to figure out a new path forward that is focused on the American people.”

She added that she hoped others, and one individual particularly, would observe go well with.

“I’m leading the way with my own example, and I hope that President Trump can do the same,” she informed Bash.

Greene’s insistence on releasing the Epstein information, her break with the President’s international coverage strategy, and her criticism of Republican senators for refusing to barter well being care with their Democratic colleagues throughout the federal government shutdown, and different rifts apparently fueled Trump’s rage.
