Modern life is chaotic – there are always countless demands and obligations to fulfill, bills to pay, kids to take care of, studies to complete, social media feeds to scroll, and so on. Finding inner peace and happiness among all this chaos might seem next to impossible. Inner peace is a state when your mind is calm, content, and free from worry and negative thoughts. When you are at complete peace with your innerself you will be relaxed and happy at all times, regardless of whatever is happening around you. Although this seems like a too distant goal to achieve, you can attain inner peace and happiness through the following 3 steps.

Acceptance

Acceptance is the very first step to inner peace.

Accept that you have flaws. All of us have flaws. Ignoring them won’t make them go away. At the same time, don’t waste your time feeling guilty about them. Make an active effort to correct these flaws.

Accept that there are things you can’t always control.  Don’t obsess over things that are not in your control. This will ruin your mood and make you feel less competent. Just focus on things you can control.

Accept whatever is happening in the present. Don’t struggle against it or resist it. It is what is. No amount of struggling can change the present. So instead of fighting against it, accept and surrender to it. Then, you can ask yourself what the present moment requires of you and do it.

Be True to Yourself

Don’t let society or those around you dictate your life. It’s your life – do what makes you happy!

Life is not a checklist where you have to tick each box– finish your studies, get married, buy a house, have children, and so on. Neither is life a ladder, and your ultimate goal is not reaching the top step at any cost. Instead, think of life as a journey where we all get to the same destination, so enjoy every step of that beautiful journey. It’s not the destination that matters but the journey itself.

Be honest with yourself. Do things for yourself. You don’t have to or need to slave away on a job that’s impressive to others. Choose a career that makes you happy! You don’t have to spend your life savings to have a grand wedding to impress the people around you. Your wedding should be about you, not those around you. Live a life that’s harmonious with your values. When you make decisions, consider what’s most important to you.

Be a Helping Hand

Helping others is an excellent way to take your focus off yourself and your problems. You don’t have to be a rich person to help others. Donating your time and efforts to a charitable endeavor or even a kind word in a time of need can be a helping hand in times of trouble.

When you help others, you will become more aware of the lives around you and their struggles. When you are kind to others and show your care and love, you will receive kindness in return. As the famous saying goes, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Helping others will also make you feel better – you will feel a sense of pride and satisfaction in your actions.

These three above steps might seem simple, but they do require a lot of time and effort. Another thing you have to remember is that inner peace doesn’t take away your problems. Inner peace is all about being calm and happy despite all your problems. It’s a state of mind where calmness and satisfaction co-exist with other issues. Start practicing these three steps right now and begin your journey to find inner peace and happiness.
