Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar is dropping her marketing campaign for metropolis comptroller to problem incumbent Jumaane Williams for the position of New York Metropolis public advocate.

Rajkumar, an in depth ally of Mayor Adams, introduced the switch-up 5 months after asserting her marketing campaign to be town’s fiscal watchdog, 

“Our City is facing a crisis of governance and can no longer afford the out-of-touch agenda of extremists like Jumaane Williams,” Rajkumar stated in a press release. “Instead, we need proven fighters who will focus on the issues that all New Yorkers care about.”

The Queens lawmaker typically seems alongside Adams’ at press conferences, even incomes a shoutout within the mayor’s State of the Metropolis speech earlier this month. 

Rajkumar filed to run for comptroller final summer season after incumbent Brad Lander introduced he was working for mayor. The controller’s race has gotten aggressive, with candidates Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine and Metropolis Council Finance Chair Justin Brannan each raking in additional donations and endorsements. 

The assemblymember has about $275,000 in her marketing campaign coffers — greater than Williams’ $69,000.

A spokesperson for Williams didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark. 

Rajkumar stated she would use the position, which is usually a foil to the mayor, to deal with affordability and public questions of safety.
