Ben-Gurion College of the Negev psychology researchers have discovered two teams of kids who acquired delayed autism diagnoses. The sooner youngsters are identified—ideally within the first two to 3 years of life—the higher their social communication and integration resulting from early intervention.

Autism charges are rising, reaching 1 in 36 children within the US, which is roughly one baby in each class.

Prof. Florina Uzefovsky of the Division of Psychology and her colleagues analyzed the Simons Foundations database of 20,000 youngsters with autism. It emerged from the information that there have been two teams of kids who had been identified after 6 years of age (i.e. delayed prognosis).

The primary group offered with fewer core and co-occurring signs. The opposite group offered with many extra signs and diagnoses, in order that autism may need been missed or misdiagnosed as one thing else.

Most kids (75%) had been identified earlier than the age of 6, however 25% weren’t.

Their findings had been revealed in JAMA Pediatrics final month.

“The power of these findings is that they emerged from the data rather than confirming a hypothesis, allowing us to avoid preconceptions about autism,” says Prof. Uzefovsky.

Extra researchers included: Dan Aizenberg of BGU’s Division of Life Sciences, Ido Shalev of the Division of Psychology, and Dr. Alal Eran of Boston Youngsters’s Hospital.
