NYC ‘taxi cops’ to get new Ford Mustang Mach-E electrical vehicles

New York Metropolis’s Taxi and Limousine Fee will quickly get 16 new electrical autos for its enforcement division, the Division of Citywide Administrative Companies is about to announce Thursday.

The extra vehicles — all Ford Mustang Mach-Es — will make 45% of the TLC’s 100-vehicle administrative fleet electrical. The town bought the brand new e-cars for $46,957 apiece, for a complete of $751,312.

The transfer comes because the fee is within the midst of implementing town’s Inexperienced Rides Initiative, which mandates that every one Uber and Lyft vehicles working within the 5 boroughs go electrical or wheelchair-accessible by 2030.

Of the 83,150 Uber and Lyft vehicles regulated by the TLC, 12,751 — or roughly 15% — are presently electrical, in line with information supplied by the fee

“With the Green Rides Initiative, we’ve been leading the nation when it comes to the sustainability of the rideshare fleet we regulate,” TLC Commissioner David Do mentioned in a press release. “Thanks to DCAS we’re also now at the forefront of electrifying the city’s fleet.”

DCAS and TLC spokespeople mentioned Wednesday that the rest of the TLC administrative fleet — which incorporates vehicles utilized by TLC cops, in addition to these utilized by company officers — is on observe to be electrified by 2027.

Metropolis officers goal to affect all road-going municipal autos by 2035.

“This is just the latest step in our efforts to ensure all New Yorkers can thrive in greener environments and enjoy cleaner air,” DCAS head Louis Molina mentioned.
