Biker who died after being ‘doored,’ run over in Manhattan ID’d by police

Police have recognized the person who died after being “doored” whereas driving an e-bike after which run over by a passing truck when he tumbled into the road in downtown Manhattan.

On Friday, police stated the sufferer was Georgios Smaragdis, 44, of Clinton Hill in Brooklyn.

Smaragdis was zipping alongside going west on Broome St. in Soho when he slammed into the door of a Mercedes van that its driver had simply flung open close to Centre St. round 10:10 a.m. on Thursday. The collision despatched the bike owner veering into the trail of a crimson supply field truck, and he was crushed when the driving force ran him over.

Medics rushed Smaragdis, who suffered extreme head trauma, to Bellevue Hospital the place he later died.

The drivers of each the van and truck remained on the scene. It’s not but clear if both of them will likely be charged with something, police stated.
