BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff has been accused of sexually assaulting a girl at his house in a civil lawsuit filed Wednesday in Salt Lake County, Utah.
The accuser, recognized solely as Jane Doe A.G., claims she and Retzlaff first messaged on social media earlier than assembly up in particular person. In response to the swimsuit obtained by the Salt Lake Tribune, she and a pal went to Retzlaff’s Provo house on Nov. 22, 2023, and he or she stayed on the home after her pal left.
A.G. says they then began kissing and whereas she “did not want to do anything more,” Retzlaff “escalat[ed] the situation” by groping her and demanding oral intercourse.
Regardless of her a number of protestations, Retzlaff “continued to escalate” earlier than finally raping her, the lawsuit alleges.
A.G. says she went to the hospital days later and had a rape equipment examination carried out earlier than reporting the incident to Provo police. She initially didn’t establish her alleged attacker out of worry investigators would tip him off about her report.
“She was scared and in shock and not ready to confront him,” the lawsuit reads.
She later gave police his identify as a result of “someone else filed a complaint against a football player and the police wanted to see if it was the same person,” claims the the swimsuit, which doesn’t specify whether or not that second criticism was made towards Retzlaff.
A.G. is suing the quarterback for battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional misery, and is in search of punitive damages.
As of Wednesday, Retzlaff had not been criminally charged and it’s unclear whether or not an investigation is underway. His legal professional referred to as him “factually innocent,” saying they “look forward to proving that innocence.”
Retzlaff, a junior school switch from California, began 13 video games for BYU final season.
