Harlem Assemblyman Eddie Gibbs, a key ally to Mayor Adams, is endorsing Andrew Cuomo’s 2025 marketing campaign, a blow to the embattled incumbent.
Gibbs, who was endorsed by Adams for his East Harlem-based seat in 2022 and has been a distinguished booster of the mayor’s Albany agenda, introduced his endorsement of Cuomo in an announcement offered by the ex-governor’s marketing campaign.
“Andrew has always fought for our communities, and I’m proud to support him for mayor of New York City,” learn Gibbs’ assertion. “He’s the leader we need to take on the tough fights and make this city work for everyone, including hardworking New Yorkers fighting for a second chance.”
Vito Pitta, Adams’ reelection marketing campaign legal professional, didn’t return a request for remark. Gibbs, the primary previously incarcerated member of the state Legislature, didn’t return calls.
Gibbs attended Cuomo’s marketing campaign kickoff occasion in Manhattan on Sunday however declined to speak to reporters at that occasion about his endorsement plans.
Cuomo’s long-awaited mayoral marketing campaign announcement has reshaped the race. For months, polls have projected that the ex-governor would handily defeat Adams and his different challengers, because the mayor continues to face political headwinds amid his federal corruption indictment.
Cuomo, who resigned as gov in 2021 amid sexual harassment accusations that he denies, has racked up some endorsements from different New York Metropolis politics power-brokers, too, together with Rep. Ritchie Torres and the native carpenters union.
