Dolly Parton sends off late husband Carl Dean with an emotional new track: ‘If You Hadn’t Been There’

Dolly Parton reached out to followers, family and friends with what she known as a “love note” Thursday within the wake of husband Carl Dean’s demise earlier this week. Then on Friday she devoted a brand new track in his honor, saying he was “the star” in her life story.

“I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old,” Parton wrote on social media. “We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him.”

The track is “If You Hadn’t Been There” and consists of the lyrics, “Oh you are my rock / A soft place to land / My wings, my confidence / You understand / Your willingness / Beyond compare / No I wouldn’t be here / If you hadn’t been there.”

Her voice trembles with emotion as she sings the lyrics, fueled by the six a long time of relationship behind them. Feedback on the Instagram put up are from individuals all over the world.

The brand new tune follows Parton’s Thursday notice to supporters on social media. “Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers that you’ve sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband Carl. I can’t reach out personally to each of you but just know it has meant the world to me,” she wrote.

Parton, 79, married Dean, who died Monday at age 82, on Might 30, 1966, in Ringgold, Ga., southeast of Chattanooga and near the Tennessee-Georgia state line. Parton, that lightning bolt, ended her remarks in Thursday’s notice, saying of her husband, “He is in God’s arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you.”
