Earthquake off Maine rattles Boston, New England

A 3.8-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Maine rattled residents from Boston to Connecticut on Monday.

The ten:22 a.m. quake was centered about six miles southeast of York Harbor, Maine, about eight miles down, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) stated.

It was felt for a whole bunch of miles, whilst distant as Pennsylvania and Albany, New York. Boston was amongst these rattled, with residents kind Beacon Hill to Roslindale feeling the shake, Axios Boston reported.

Whereas New England earthquakes are unusual, they do occur.

“Moderately damaging earthquakes strike somewhere in the region every few decades, and smaller earthquakes are felt roughly twice a year,” the USGS says on its web site, noting additionally that earthquakes within the japanese and central U.S. usually reverberate over a a lot bigger area than they do within the West.

There have been no accidents, and no stories of harm.
