A hero FDNY firefighter who as soon as rescued a sufferer in a wheelchair from a burning constructing died after falling off his motorbike on the FDR Drive and being struck by a driver who didn’t stay on the scene, police stated.

Matthew Goicochea was driving his 2023 Yamaha motorbike uptown on the parkway when he worn out close to E. ninth St. about 3:45 a.m. cops stated.

After falling off his motorbike he was struck by a driver who didn’t stay on the scene. Investigators are uncertain if the driving force knew they struck somebody and don’t but have a car description. The motive force has not been discovered.

Medics rushed Goicochea to Bellevue Hospital, the place he died.

“We lost a true hero,” Deputy Mayor Kaz Daughtry posted on X.  “His dedication to serving and protecting New Yorkers, including his heroic rescue of a fire victim in the Bronx that earned him the Thomas Wylie Medal last year, exemplifies the selflessness and courage that define all of New York’s Bravest.”

Goicochea joined the FDNY in September 2022, serving with Ladder Firm 41 within the Bronx.

In August 2023, Goicochea‘s firm was the primary to reply to a 911 name a few fireplace engulfing a six-story constructing in Morris Park. Goicochea carried the sufferer into the hallway and his fellow firefighters then helped him carry the sufferer down the steps and out of the constructing.

”At nice private danger [Goicochea]’s fast and decisive actions led to the rescue, elimination and immediate emergency medical care of this sufferer,” the FDNY report says.

Goicochea lived in Throgs Neck.
