“He was just the funniest,” Michele remembered. “You never knew what was going to come out of his mouth — we used to call them Jimmyisms. He was very patriotic too. His first tattoo was an American flag.”

After his son’s demise, Invoice praised Jimmy as “a samurai.”

“Most people don’t know what the word samurai means. It means to serve,” Invoice instructed the Related Press on the time. “He’s been serving his whole life. He’s been carrying a gun since he was 18.”

Jimmy’s title was added to the Nationwide Regulation Enforcement Officers Memorial in 2017. Invoice and Michele attended the ceremony however by no means made it again once more. “I did five years in the Army and 20 years in NYPD,” he added. “Like me, my son was a cop and a soldier. He chose to answer the call to serve where the fight was.”

“He drove Bill to his chemo and radiation appointments,” she remembered. “They had a lot of similarities. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for us. When I asked him to join me in D.C., he said, ‘I’m there, 100%.’”

Nationwide Police Week was “bittersweet” for Michele as she made rubbings of her husband and stepson’s names.

“Memorial Day took on a whole new meaning for us since Jimmy was killed,” she stated. “We would always tell people to take a moment to remember our fallen veterans (who died in action). We would tell them, ‘You can have a barbecue, just remember the men and women who died to give us that right. And if you don’t know any of their names, look one up.’”

“You never want to forget them,” she stated. “It’s important for their stories to carry on.”
