Three firefighters had been injured Friday when an enormous hearth tore by means of three penthouses atop an Higher East Facet residence constructing, the FDNY stated.
The blaze broke out simply after 10 a.m. on the roof of a luxurious six-story constructing on E. ninety fifth St. constructing close to Second Ave.
“The fire quickly extended to the cockloft, the area on the top floor between the ceiling and the roof,” FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief James Canty stated at a press convention Friday afternoon. “(The fire) entered that area and entered some penthouses on the roof.”
There are three penthouses on the highest flooring of the constructing, stated Canty, who stated the blaze was threatening to unfold to adjoining buildings when the FDNY arrived.

“We opened up the area, got water on the fire and were able to contain it to the original fire building, stopping the spread,” Canty stated.
“It was a good feat on a day like today,” Canty stated, including that Friday’s 87-degree temperatures precipitated the flames to “heat up quickly” and threatened to overheat firefighters of their heavy bunker gear.
Three firefighters suffered minor accidents combating the blaze, officers stated. The hearth was extinguished in about an hour.
Greater than 170 firefighters and EMS personnel had been on scene.
No constructing residents had been injured, officers stated.
Whereas preliminary experiences stated the hearth could have been sparked by a buildup of gasses within the basement, Canty stated the hearth originated on the roof.
FDNY hearth marshals have been tasked with figuring out what sparked the blaze.
