Former soccer coach and veteran broadcaster Jimmy Johnson is retiring from Fox Sports activities’ NFL protection after greater than 30 years within the studio.
Johnson, 81, introduced his retirement Monday on morning present “The Herd With Colin Cowherd.”
“The most fun I ever had in my career, that’s counting Super Bowls and national championships, was at Fox Sports,” he mentioned.
“But I’ve made an extremely difficult decision,” he mentioned. “I’ve been thinking about it for the last four or five years and I’ve decided to retire from Fox. I’m going to miss it. I’m going to miss all the guys. I’ll see them occasionally. It’s been a great run starting 31 years ago.”
Johnson coached at Oklahoma State and the College of Miami — the place he received a nationwide championship —earlier than leaping to the NFL.
In 5 seasons, he received two Tremendous Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys earlier than his first stint at Fox’s Sunday pre- and post-game present in 1994. He returned to the NFL sidelines in 1996 for 4 seasons with the Miami Dolphins earlier than heading again to TV full time after the 1999 season.
Hypothesis about Johnson’s future started percolating throughout Fox’s pregame protection of final month’s Tremendous Bowl when the community aired an almost 5-minute tribute to the Corridor of Famer.
“Fox NFL Sunday” is hosted by Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Michael Strahan, Howie Lengthy, Jay Glazer and Rob Gronkowski. “Gronk” not too long ago denied rumors he was returning to the NFL after 4 years of retirement.
