An aged lady critically injured in a Washington Heights electrical fireplace has died, with the FDNY saying that the blaze was sparked by not less than one area heater that was plugged into an extension wire.

The fireplace broke out within the days and weeks following a number of complaints a few lack of warmth within the constructing on Bennett Ave. close to W. 184th St., together with a 311 grievance filed by a tenant on Jan. 4, three days earlier than the lethal blaze.

FDNY fireplace marshals decided the fireplace was sparked by quite a few area heaters that had been heating the house, which had been plugged into extension cords together with different home equipment.

“Space heaters should never be used with extension cords and should always be plugged directly into a wall outlet,” the FDNY warned in a submit on X. “Large appliances can generate increased heat in an extension cord, causing it to overheat, melt or ignite.”

On Jan. 4, a tenant filed a 311 grievance for lack of warmth of their house, data present. The grievance was closed the identical day as the fireplace, when the Division of Housing Preservation and Improvement decided the warmth was again on.
