TOKYO (AP) — A robust earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 has hit southwestern Japan, the nation’s Meteorological Company mentioned Monday, whereas warning the general public to steer clear of coastal areas due to a tsunami menace.

Tsunami advisories have been issued for Miyazaki Prefecture, the place the quake was centered, within the southwestern island of Kyushu, in addition to close by Kochi Prefecture, shortly after the quake struck at 9:19 p.m. native time, based on the company.
