Monday was shifting day for Mayor Mamdani as he his spouse, Rama Duwaji, left their Astoria condo for Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s conventional residence on the Higher East Facet.
“Rama and I feel lucky to participate in a ritual that so many New Yorkers have experienced at various meaningful moments in their lives: Beginning a new chapter by moving to a different part of the city that we call home,” Mamdani stated at a press convention to speak about his transfer.
Packing containers stuffed with kitchen provides, a vacuum and monstera path vegetation sat outdoors the mansion, and movers stood by close to a truck as Mamdani spoke.

Mamdani stated he intends to make the 11,000 sq. foot mansion extra “accessible to the people” than underneath earlier mayors, although he didn’t present particulars on how he plans to do this.
The mayor has been residing in a rent-stabilized Astoria one bed room, and he’s placing his safety deposit in the direction of his January hire, the final month of the lease.
Mamdani stated he plans to put in a number of bidets into the porcelain throne within the mansion: “That’s an aspirational hope,” he quipped.

The five-bedroom residence has a giant garden with view overlooking the East River and wraparound porches on two ranges.
Ex-Mayor Adams moved out of the mansion, which was inbuilt 1799, final month and has largely been touring since then.
Earlier Monday, at an unrelated look, Adams stated he left Mamdani a “good” observe.
“I’ll go looking for it,” Mamdani stated.
Mamdani beforehand introduced he’d be making the transfer.
“This decision came down to our family’s safety and the importance of dedicating all of my focus on enacting the affordability agenda New Yorkers voted for,” Mamdani stated in a press release.
