In January, Harlem Councilman Yusef Salaam grew to become the primary New York politician to obtain a marketing campaign contribution from Mayor Eric Adams, filings present.

However weeks later, Salaam, a member of the “Exonerated 5,” threw his political weight behind Council Speaker Adrienne Adams’ bid to grow to be town’s subsequent mayor.

That got here after Salaam’s reelection marketing campaign accepted $100 in money from Eric Adams on Jan. 3 — the primary political contribution the mayor has made since his Jan. 1, 2022 inauguration, beforehand unreported information present. It’s unclear if Adams made the contribution as a part of any fundraiser, however $100 is the authorized max an individual can provide a neighborhood political candidate in money.

Salaam, who’s being challenged in June’s main from educator Elizabeth Sanchez, didn’t return a request for remark Monday, and neither did a spokesman for the mayor. Speaker Adams’ marketing campaign declined remark.
