WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Doug LaMalfa, a seven-term U.S. consultant from California, has died, GOP officers stated Tuesday. He was 65.

His demise, confirmed by Majority Whip Tom Emmer and Nationwide Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson, reduces the Republicans’ already slender management of the Home to 218 seats to Democrats’ 213.
Particulars surrounding LaMalfa’s demise have been unclear.
LaMalfa represented Northern California’s 1st District, alongside the Oregon border, together with Redding and reaching simply north of Sacramento. He had deliberate to run for reelection regardless of his district being dramatically redrawn beneath a poll measure handed by California voters in November. The measure, backed by Democrats, was designed to make it tougher for LaMalfa and 4 different Republicans to win reelection.
“Doug was a principled conservative and a tireless advocate for the people of Northern California,” Hudson stated. “He was never afraid to fight for rural communities, farmers, and working families. Doug brought grit, authenticity, and conviction to everything he did in public service.”
LaMalfa was a former state lawmaker and rice farmer. He was first elected to Congress in 2012.
He was an everyday presence on the Home flooring, serving to GOP management open the chamber and supply his view native and nationwide affairs.
