SNAP advantages exit to New Yorkers regardless of Supreme Court docket ruling

Meals stamps in New York have been absolutely funded starting Sunday regardless of a ruling from the Supreme Court docket late final week, Gov. Hochul mentioned.

“While Donald Trump has fought relentlessly to keep food off New Yorkers’ tables, families who rely on SNAP can finally breathe a sigh of relief as benefits begin to arrive,” Hochul wrote on social media. “I’ll never stop fighting for New Yorkers or holding Republicans in Washington accountable.”

New York is one among a number of states that launched funds for SNAP following a federal court docket ruling on Thursday. However Trump’s administration appealed the ruling and Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson dominated Friday evening that the feds don’t want to completely fund this system whereas ready for a decrease court docket to concern a judgement.

On Sunday, Trump’s administration demanded that states “undo” full SNAP funds in response to the Supreme Court docket ruling, calling them “unauthorized” and threatening to penalize and never reimburse states that made the funds.

“States must immediately undo any steps taken to issue full SNAP benefits for November 2025,” the USDA mentioned in its assertion.

Hochul was one among a number of governors who responded with anger and promised to fund this system anyway.

“Thank you, [Gov. Hochul], for ensuring our families are taken care of and fed,” Mayor Adams wrote Saturday. “SNAP funds will be dispersed starting [Sunday], but New Yorkers can always access resources to find groceries or meals. We will always take care of each other.”

The court docket struggle over SNAP advantages has left states in limbo and scrambling to react, whereas 42 million individuals who depend on meals stamps have been caught questioning in the event that they’ll be capable of afford meals.
