Huge East basketball coaches discovered a becoming technique to rejoice what would have been Lou Carnesecca’s one centesimal birthday.

UConn’s Dan Hurley wore a white, blue and maroon sweater throughout Sunday’s sport towards Windfall, making him the most recent coach within the convention to don a patterned sweater like those Carnesseca wore throughout his 24 seasons as the top coach of St. John’s.

“We scheduled this as a celebration of his tremendous career and life well-lived,” Dan Leibovitz, the Huge East’s senior affiliate commissioner for males’s basketball, wrote on X.

Carnesecca, who died on Nov. 30, would have turned 100 on Sunday.

Carnesecca led St. John’s to Huge East titles in 1983 and 1986 and gained the convention’s coach of the 12 months honor 3 times. He went 112-65 towards the Huge East in his 13 years within the convention.

General, Carnesecca went 526-200 (.725) over two stints as head coach at St. John’s from 1965-70 and 1973-92 and led the Johnnies to the Remaining 4 in 1985.

He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Corridor of Fame in 1992, and St. John’s renamed the sector on its Queens campus after Carnesecca in 2004.

On Dec. 7, within the first St. John’s sport after Carnesecca’s loss of life, present head coach Rick Pitino wore a customized duplicate of one among Carnesecca’s sweaters on the sideline.

“I don’t think I would have ever forgiven myself if we lost this game,” Pitino stated on the time.
