Kimmel’s present was indefinitely pulled off the air final week after President Trump’s administration threatened to punish ABC over the feedback.
In a Monday morning press convention on Roosevelt Island, Mamdani — the front-runner in November’s mayoral election — introduced he’s scrapping plans to seem for a city hall-style occasion set to be hosted by ABC’s native affiliate this Thursday due to the Kimmel canning, which he referred to as an act of “cowardice” on the community’s half.
“It’s not just a question of Jimmy Kimmel himself, it’s also a question of the many workers who find their livelihoods from that job, be they sound engineers be they the writers, be they the musicians,” stated Mamdani, whose marketing campaign has been centered on coverage proposals for making town extra inexpensive.
“This attack on the freedom of expression is an also an attack on their ability to afford to live in the city that they call home,” he continued, “and the message that it sends to each and every American across this country is a message that the First Amendment is no longer a right to be counted on, but rather that it’s government which will determine what should and should not be discussed … We cannot normalize these kinds of acts.”

He stated he plans to carry one other city hall-style occasion to take questions from the general public “in the weeks to come,” although his marketing campaign didn’t instantly present extra particulars.
An ABC spokeswoman didn’t instantly return requests for remark.

Kimmel, who has hosted his eponymous present since 2003, made the controversial remark about Kirk’s alleged killer throughout an episode that aired Sept. 14.
Within the episode, Kimmel stated Trump’s “MAGA gang” supporters had reached “new lows” as a result of they had been “desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
Regulation enforcement officers have since stated the suspected shooter was motivated by his perception that Kirk unfold “hatred,” particularly in opposition to LGBTQ people.
